Ka Ora, Ka Ako
Healthy School Lunches Programme

Tokoroa Intermediate School is part of the Ka Ora, Ka Ako | Healthy School Lunches Programme. This is an intiative from the Ministry of Education that aims to reduce food insecurity by providing access to a nutritious lunch in school every day.

The name Ka Ora, Ka Ako derives from research that reflects the importance of being healthy and well in order to be in a good place to learn. By reducing food insecurities for our tamariki we hope to..

​

  • improve wellbeing

  • support child development and learning

  • improve learners’ levels of concentration, behaviour and school achievement

  • reduce financial hardship amongst families and whānau

  • address barriers to children’s participation in education and promote attendance at school

  • boost learners’ overall health.


Our lunches are provided by Tokoroa High School Healthy Lunch programme. Lunches are delivered daily and classroom monitors collect each day for their classroom. We cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free.


Please let the school know if there is a preference.

Lunches are created based on the Governments Guidance principles;  these being a variety of healthy foods, minimal saturated fat, minimal salt and less sugar to be added.

There is a selection of healthy drinks, Jucie, Moosies and Doritos for students to purchase.
