Tokoroa Intermediate School construction was not far off beginning at that time. The school opened for the 1962 school year. The buildings observable near the current school site are those of Tokoroa High School (to the East) and, now closed, Matarawa Primary School (to the South). Note the rural areas that have now become the suburbs of Paraonui, Matarawa, Aotea and Strathmore. The street map is dated "revised 1990" It doesn't fully cover housing developments to the North or Wast of Tokoroa.
