Dear Parents / Caregivers

Congratulations to two of our staff members Mr Jeff Gibson and Miss Jane Ritchie.  They have both won positions in Hamilton and Blenheim respectively.  We take this opportunity to thank them for their work for Tokoroa Intermediate and wish them well in their new positions.

Next week is a very busy week for our students with class trips and socials early in the week.  Please remember to ensure your child / children meet all the deadlines for these events.

Today our Year 8’s visited Forest View High School and Tokoroa High School.  This was part of their orientation for 2006.  Year 6 children visited us today also as part of their orientation into Tokoroa Intermediate School next year.

Reading Tutors have finished for 2005.  These volunteers work with individual children to assist them to gain reading mileage and understanding.  On behalf of the community and children I would like to thank them for their efforts and support.

McDonalds Sponsorship

Each week McDonalds donate vouchers to sixteen students from Tokoroa Intermediate School.  These awards are presented to recognise the students who are achieving to high standards in each class.  This is a substantial sponsorship.  I would like to thank Tony & Angela Rowland for this opportunity to acknowledge students who have worked well each week.

End of Year Socials

As for all school socials, attendance is by invitation.  Students whose behaviour has been unacceptable or owe money (this does not include school fees) will not be given an invitation.  Parents have been advised if money is owing.  This includes payment of lost or defaced library books, dictionaries or atlases, as well as property damage.  We are pleased that there are only a small percentage of students who do not receive social invitations.  As we are concerned about student safety, your child must be collected from the hall after the Social.  We would appreciate it if you could be there as close to the end of the Social as possible (9:30p.m. for Year 7 and 10:00p.m. for Year 8).  Only students with correctly filled in Invitation Forms will be allowed to enter the Social.  Students whose forms are not correctly filled in will have their parent / guardian contacted to collect them.

Life Education

The Life Education programme has been completed with all students Year 7 and Year 8 participating.  Year 7’s had two sessions in the Life Education caravan with tutor Shelly Marshall.  The Year 8’s had an introductory session as a syndicate, followed by a classroom lesson again followed by two Life Education caravan sessions.  The feedback from teachers / students and from Shelly herself has been positive.  Each student received a booklet with follow up activities and a summary of the programme that was presented to them.  Any parent wanting to know more about the programme can ask their child for their booklet which will provide an excellent overview of Life Education as presented to their child.

Inter-Class Cricket

Year 8 Interclass Cricket is currently taking place during the lunch period.  A straight knock out competition for the trophy continues despite the recent inclement weather.  Results so far – Room 2 beat Room 6, Room 3 beat Room 5 and Room 4 have a total of 123 runs against Room 7 in a game yet to be finished.  A big thanks to Charlie Tiare for his assistance with this activity.
