Dear Parents / Caregivers
KAPA HAKA REGIONAL FINALS
On Saturday it was my privilege to watch our Kapa Haka group perform in the
regional finals at Manu Ariki marae. I was very proud of both their
performance and the way the group conducted themselves during the time I was
there. One adult I overheard described the group’s performance as
‘fabulous’. The day was completed when I heard they had gained first
place in the junior section, first place for lead boy and third place for
lead girl. Well done to this group which, incidentally, represents almost
10% of our school population.

1st place – moteatea
1st place – action song
1st place – haka
1st place – whakawatea – exit

3rd place – female leader – Shauni Ngatai-McCaskill

This is also an opportune moment to acknowledge the work of all those
involved with the group. The tutors – Charles Tepana and Tangiwai Amopiu,
supported by Mansel Moke, Amy Awatere, Mrs Puke and the host of parents and
family members that assist in a wide variety of ways. My thanks and the
thanks of the whole school community for your marvellous work.

Summer
Children are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen whenever they are outside
during the summer months. We hope parents will encourage their
children to ‘cover up’ – the school will.

Athletics Sports Day
Tomorrow at school starting at 9:00 a.m. until the end of the school day.
Students need to be at school at the normal time. The canteen will not
be open so students need to bring their own lunch as well as having a drink
bottle. We strongly advise that all students have sunscreen and bring
hats. Students come to school in their phys-ed gear and a school
jacket / jersey. Parents and family are most welcome to attend and support
the students.

Waikato Intermediate Schools' Softball Competition
It was with great disappointment that the members of the Waikato
Intermediate Competition Girls and Boys Softball teams received the news on
Monday that the Tournament had been postponed due to “weather conditions
being unfavourable”. As the postponement date is tomorrow, our teams
are now no longer able to participate, as this date clashes with our school
athletic sports. Many thanks to all the children who spent many hours
practicing and to Mr Nelson Sheck who gave up his time to coach the boys to
a high standard.
