Dear Parents / Caregivers

Welcome back after Labour Weekend. We hope that the whole school is refreshed and ready for a very busy nine weeks.

A special congratulation to all the school leaders involved in the Open Days last week.  I was very proud of the honest, open way they approached their tasks.  Whether it was speaking to the different audiences or acting as guides, these young students presented themselves and the school in a very positive light.

Sports

We have a very busy sports programme this term with the inter-intermediate events plus our own programme.  Please encourage students to be involved in these events and always prepared with the correct gear.

Congratulations to all those involved in the athletic sports so far.  It is very impressive to see the effort being put into these races during the lunchtime.  Keep up the good work.

Blind Week Collection

Next week, Monday 31 October, is the annual Blind Week Collection (formerly Braille).  This collection is the one collection that our school supports by asking for student volunteers to assist with the actual collection.  The student volunteers will be supported by members of the local Lions Clubs.  If you would like further information regarding this, please contact Mrs Stobie or me.

Attendance

A survey of attendance last week showed an average attendance of 92.5% for the week.  This is above the 90% that was reported last Monday and in national news recently but still below the Ministry of Education acceptable level of 94%.

Please phone the office on 886 7687 if your child is going to be absent from school.

New South Wales English Competition

A number of students sat the University of New South Wales English Competition in Term 2.  We had two distinctions (89 – 98 percentile) and ten credits (69 - 88 percentile).  Achievement Awards are for the top results gained by students at our school, which do not gain a distinction or credit award (national results).  We had two achievement awards. Congratulations to all students who entered and in particular Levon McCloskey and Robert Dickinson (distinction), Vincent Aballe, Jake Belfield, Caroline Busfield, Lacy-Anne Lockley, Cindy Nguyen, Jordan Redwood, Kendal Thomas, Centaine Treasurer, John Bright, Ben Nicholson and Aaron Smith (credit), Phyllis Boyd and Ethan McKenzie (achievement).
