Dear Parents / Caregivers

We have been asked by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to point out to parents an unsafe product.  The ‘no holes tongue stud’.  If you or your child have purchased one of these and need advice you can contact the Ministry of Consumer Affairs on 0508 627 774.

The annual school Prize Giving will be held next Wednesday afternoon 1:00p.m.  We have a long programme and will be starting at 1:00p.m. sharp.
As it is a long programme we are conscious of a number of issues:

  • Elderly people may like to bring a thin, soft cushion to ensure greater comfort.
  • The Prize Giving is not suitable for babies or young children. Could you please make other arrangements for them.
  • As we are often short of room could High School students please wait outside the hall until all adults and Tokoroa Intermediate pupils are seated.

School Socials

My thanks and congratulations to everybody involved in the two school socials.  Two pleasant evenings with groups of polite young people. Extra special thanks to Mr Creigh-Smith for all his work organising the socials and to the other helpers who ensured things went smoothly.

Kapa Haka End of Year Trip & Prizegiving

Friday, 9 December was a busy one for our school Kapa Haka group.  In the morning they travelled to Rotorua for a ‘Day Out’ to reward them for the many hours they spent practicing this year.  They visited Whakarewarewa Thermal Village where they gave the visiting tourists an impromptu concert, then spent the afternoon at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre.
At night the children attended the annual Kapa Haka Prizegiving at Papa O Te Aroha Marae.  The tutors had arranged an evening of entertainment and recognition for the childrens efforts. Members of Te Piringatahi, the Tokoroa High School ropu and a newly formed adult group in town, all gave items.

Awards given were:

Most Improved Year 7 - Jessica Ria, Sean Tatham
Outstanding Year 7 - Leimoanike’ala Makekau, Hohepa Hemara
Most Improved Year 8 - Lorraine Churchward, Kol-Sheyzz Uatuku
Outstanding Year 8 - Shauni Ngatai-McCaskill, Jarrod Haare

Novelty awards were also given

Most Vigorous Haka - Axl Kingi
Most Quiet - Stacey Winikerei
Best Rugby Player at Noho Marae - Sissy Maniapoto
Most Entertaining - Mihipeka Katene
Leaders Awards - Tuta Thompson, Chloe Pomare

Many thanks to all those who contributed to making this a memorable evening for the children, the tutors, E Pa, the guest Kapa Haka groups and extra thanks to Te Wananga O Aotearoa, Te Wananga O Raukawa, the Waiariki Institute and Raukawa Trust Board for their very generous donations of books and c.d.s which the children received as prizes.

The group gave their final performance of 2005 at Christmas in the Park on Saturday.

Cricket

A team has been playing in the Putaruru Primary Schools 8 a-side competition on Monday nights.  The weather has not been kind to us but the children have enjoyed the games they have played.  We have had two wins and one loss and came runner-up in the competition.  Many thanks to Mark Pourau for coaching, encouraging and transporting the children and to James Coxhead for his support and transport each week.
