Dear Parents / Caregivers

NSW Computer Competition

Fourteen of our students sat the University of New South Wales Computer Competition in Term 1.  Four of the students gained credit awards (between 69 and 89 percentile).  Congratulations, not only to Robert Dickinson, Ross Gardiner, Kelly Nicholas and Nadine More who gained credits, but all the students who made the effort to sit the test.

Waikato Intermediate Schools Golf Competition

A team of two girls and two boys represented our school at the Waikato Intermediate Schools Golf Tournament at the Tirau Golf Club on Monday.  The team was placed 5th.  The two girls played extremely well, winning both the gross and nett competition.  Kelly Nicholas had a nett 73 and Chantelle Cassidy a gross 71 and net 64.  Congratulations to the team and in particular the girls who will be playing in the NZAIMS (New Zealand Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools) competition next week in the Tauranga area.

Kapa Haka

Term 4 which include performing at Te Y Festival 2005 at Ngatira Marae on 15th and 16th October, the Manu Ariki Cultural Festival and the Tokoroa Polynesian Festival.

Last Friday they performed for a Kohanga Reo Noho Marae and this weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) have a noho marae at Papa 0 te Aroha to practise their items.  We are appreciative of the hard work Tangiwai Amopiu, Charles Tepana and Mansell Moke are putting into the group as well as Kirsty Puke for co-ordinating the practices and performances.

Meningococcal Immunisation

The third round of the vaccination programme for meningococcal has been completed.  The fourth round will be Friday, 16th September and it will provide the last opportunity for children to complete their three immunisations in the school setting.

As we have emphasised throughout the programme, it is absolutely essential to receive all three injections to achieve the best protection from meningococcal B disease.  With this in mind, we strongly urge parents to make every effort to ensure their children get the full course.  If for some reason children have not been able to complete their three vaccinations by the time we finish round four, they will need to go to their GP to complete the programme.  We will provide notification to GP practices for children who have not completed their immunisations.

A reminder to parents that the school Social is on Wednesday, 21st September, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  The Social is by invitation only.  Before children can be considered for an invitation they need to make sure that all outstanding fees have been paid (this does not include school fees).  If you owe money you will have received an account in the mail over the last three weeks.  Further details on the Social will be in next week’s newsletter.
