Dear Parents / Caregivers Unfortunately the miserable weather, apart from one or two days over the
holiday period, didn’t allow children to get outside to enjoy the outdoors.
Let’s hope the weather picks up as it’s just over a month until Spring. We had an incident last term where
a parent took a video of students. Please check with me before
videoing or photographing students at school or at school functions.
Although this may appear to be rather trivial, there are many parents who,
for privacy reasons, do not want their children photographed and we respect
their rights. Would parents please ensure items of uniform are
clearly named. This helps us return clothing found around the school.
If uniform items are un-named teachers cannot be expected to locate them or,
if there is a disagreement over who owns them, decide on the rightful owner.
As school uniforms are very expensive - please name them.
We are in the process of making a change to the girls’ winter uniform.
Long white socks have been added to the school uniform. They are
not compulsory. If girls do wear them it is important that
they are clearly worn below their knees. Meningococcal B Immunisation
Students received their third Meningococcal B vaccination today.
Teachers monitored the students during the day. If your child is
unwell tomorrow we request you keep them at home as we don’t have sick bay
facilities at school for a number of unwell students. With the last
meningococcal vaccination, the vast majority of students showed no adverse
reaction although a number did feel unwell and needed to lie down and rest
the following day. Attendance
Towards the end of last term I mentioned that Tokoroa schools, the Ministry
of Education and police will be working together to increase attendance at
school. Approximately 60 – 70% of our students have very good
attendance. Unfortunately there is a reasonably large number of
students who have days off school on a regular basis and for many this has
been the pattern for a number of years. Gwynne Shield A number of our students participated in the Gwynne Shield Competition during the holidays. They finished 5th equal, losing two games by very close margins. Roller Mills Team Congratulations to the boys selected for the Waikato Rangers Rugby team to compete in the Roller Mills Tournament during the next holidays – Joshua Cameron, Jarrod Haare, Jared Wilson, Kale Pomare and Taylor Glassie. Free Mobile Ear Clinic St. Marks Community House, Bridge Street, Tokoroa. 15 and 29 August, 5 and 19 September.
